Outrider safety system for self-driving terminal tractors passes TÜV SÜD assessment

Terminal tractor being tested with Outrider's self-driving system

USAOutrider of Golden, Colorado has announced that its safety system for driverless terminal tractors – which it claims is the industry’s first to be built from the ground up for autonomous operations – has been certified by TÜV SÜD in accordance with its “AV Conformity Framework”.

Outrider’s safety system comprises fourteen mechanisms to respond to more than 200,000 hazards specific to operations in a terminal or depot. The system has redundancy built in and can detect anomalies in the vehicle’s environment, override unsafe behaviours, and bring the vehicle to a stop in response to potential risks.
