Poland – In the European market1 for battery electric and fuel cell electric buses, Polish manufacturer Solaris retained its leading position in 2024, accounting for 13.91% (3,074 units) of zero-emission bus sales. According to Mateusz Figaszewski, the director of institutional partnerships and external relations at Solaris, the company is currently focused on maintaining its leading position in the European city bus market, introducing an electric bus for the intercity segment, and replicating its European success in the North American market.
Figaszewski recently spoke with Truck & Bus Builder, talking through the company’s results from 2024 and its future plans. Solaris generated revenues of EUR927m (2023: EUR819m), primarily from sales of its buses and trolleybuses which come with various specifications and drivelines. The key takeaway, however, is the proportion of vehicles that Solaris sold with alternative drives (i.e., battery electric, fuel cell electric, and hybrid): in 2024, 83% of Solaris vehicles sold were partly or fully electric. Though only a slight step above 2023 (82%), it represents a massive leap over the 55% figure reported in 2022.
