TurkeyOtokar Otomotiv ve Savunma Sanayi AŞ (“Otokar”) of Sakarya, Turkey has announced it is the first Turkish manufacturer to successfully submit a self-driving vehicle for testing, making its autonomous bus ready for type approval.

The company completed comprehensive testing of a Level 4 autonomous ‘e-Centro’ bus carried out by TÜV Rheinland at its “Smart City” test track in Hungary. Over thirty days, the self-driving bus was evaluated in 148 different scenarios and passed over 600 function tests. These assessed the vehicle’s ability to corner, keep to lanes, make sharp turns, comply with traffic rules, and recognise objects in low visibility. The bus was also tested over five days on two public roads in real traffic conditions.
