Hyundai tests hydrogen buses in Saudi Arabia

Hyundai’s Universe undergoing trials in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia / South Korea — South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), headquartered in Seoul, has successfully completed a pioneering hydrogen mobility trial in Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk Province, which the company claims was the first test of a hydrogen-powered public transport vehicle on a high-altitude route. The trials were conducted in partnership with Enowa, the energy and water subsidiary of Neom, a regional development project funded by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).

The Universe hydrogen fuel cell electric bus was tested on routes with elevations exceeding 2,000 meters and gradients of up to 24%, simulating passenger transport in Trojena, the planned business district of the future city of Neom, in Saudi Arabia’s mountainous Tabuk Province
