British HGV market continued its decline in Q2 2025

UK – The market for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs, i.e., trucks >6t) in Britain continued its decline in the second quarter of 2025, with registrations falling by 11.2% compared with the same period of the year before, according to statistics published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

A total of 10,185 trucks were registered in the second quarter, compared to 11,469 the year before. Registrations of rigid trucks fell by 12.5% from 6,640 to 5,809 units: of the total, 1,876 were between 6t and 16t (2024: 2,402) and 3,933 weighed over 16t (2024: 4,238). Artic registrations declined by 9.4% from 4,829 to 4,376 year-on-year, with 507 2-axle artics (2024: 631) and 3,869 3+-axle artics (2024: 4,198) registered.
