Voith electrifies its first diesel coach with retrofit firm To Zero

Coach retrofit for Scharf OHG

Germany – J M Voith SE & Co KG of Heidenheim, Baden-Württemberg has successfully electrified a diesel coach and put it on the road in Bavaria, in partnership with a retrofit company called To Zero.

Taking the ‘Voith Electrical Drive System’ (rated at 410 kW peak) and a 420-kWh battery system, the partners electrified a diesel coach which has been dubbed “TZ-S eCoach”. The batteries were installed in several places, including the space where certain diesel components were located, the former engine bay at the rear, and part of the luggage compartment.
