Aurora expands to night-time driverless trucking

By Luke Willetts - 5th September 2025

USA – Start-up software company, Aurora Innovations Inc., has begun driverless night operations on its Dallas–Houston corridor, adding to its daytime runs launched earlier in 2025. With three trucks now operating day and night, the company has already logged more than 20,000 driverless miles (32,000 km). Night operations significantly extend vehicle uptime and highlight the safety advantages of autonomous systems in low-light conditions.

The relevance of this development lies in its potential to address critical challenges in the freight industry, such as driver shortages and the need for increased efficiency, thus reducing operational costs for fleet owners.
