Ashok Leyland approves strategic investments in OHM Global and VBCL

India – The management board of commercial vehicle manufacturer, Ashok Leyland Ltd of Chennai, India has approved strategic investments in two of its wholly-owned Chennai based subsidiaries; financial services company, OHM Global Mobility Pvt Ltd1 and bus and coach body builder, Vishwa Buses and Coaches Ltd (VBCL) also based in Chennai, as part of its business growth strategy and transition to zero emission electric products.

OHM Global Mobility is a part of Switch Mobility (Ashok Leyland’s electric truck and bus manufacturing division), founded in 2020. OHM provides a range of services to enable operators to adopt electric vehicles (EVs). According to the company’s board resolution, Ashok Leyland will invest up to IND300 crores (USD36m) in OHM Global Mobility; this investment is to be channelled into its e-Mobility-as-a-Service (EMaaS) operation, which focuses on providing electric bus and truck operations under a pay-per-use model.
