Isuzu to build dedicated autonomous vehicle test track

Isuzu’s planned autonomous vehicle proving ground in Hokkaido, Japan

Japan - Isuzu Motors Ltd, headquartered in Yokohama, in Japan’s Kanagawa Prefecture, announced that it plans to build a new dedicated autonomous driving test course. The facility will be built within the grounds of Isuzu Hokkaido Proving Ground Company Ltd, an Isuzu Group company headquartered in Mukawa, Hokkaido, as the Japanese truck-maker looks to accelerate the development and adoption of Level 4 autonomous trucks and buses.

Isuzu confirmed that the new facility will be Japan’s first dedicated autonomous driving test course to be established by a commercial vehicle manufacturer. It will be designed to accommodate large vehicles, including heavy-duty trucks with trailers and articulated buses.
