Thermo King launches heat pump system for battery electric buses

USA – Thermo King Corporation of Bloomington, Minnesota has launched a heat pump system for battery electric buses which it claims will provide the vehicle with up to 50% more range than a conventional heater that draws energy from the traction batteries.
The ‘TE Series Heat Pump’ is presented as an alternative to a traditional electric resistance heater, which reduces the vehicle’s range by drawing substantial amounts of energy from the batteries. Based on the heat pump technology produced by parent company Trane Technologies for residential and commercial heating, Thermo King’s new product extracts heat from ambient air rather than generating it with electricity.
