Update: Karsan e-ATAK Now Live in Gothenburg

Karsan Level 4 autonomous e-ATAK in Gothenburg

Sweden / Turkey T&BB reported earlier in the year that Turkish bus manufacturer, Karsan Otomotiv Sanayii ve Tic. A.Ş based in Bursa, was going to launch its Karsan Level 4 autonomous e-ATAK in Gothenburg in 2025, that project has now gone live. Operated by Vy Buss for Västtrafik, the bus now runs a scheduled 4-kilometre route connecting Gothenburg Central Station to Liseberg Station, with seven stops through the Gårda district. This marks the official launch of Sweden’s first Level 4 autonomous public transit bus operating in regular urban traffic.

The deployment is part of a year-long pilot project designed to evaluate how autonomous buses integrate into city transit under everyday conditions. Equipped with Adastec’s flowride.ai software and a suite of LiDAR, radar, RGB cameras, GNSS and thermal sensors, the e-ATAK can navigate intersections, respond to traffic lights, approach stops, and manage passenger boarding and alighting without human intervention. A safety driver is still present during this initial phase, but the bus is otherwise capable of handling its route independently.
