Hispacold launches natural refrigerant HVAC system into series production

Spain - Spanish HVAC systems supplier, Internacional Hispacold SA (Hispacold), headquartered in Torrecuéllar (a subsidiary of Irizar Group SC), announced that it has launched its new R290 natural refrigerant HVAC system into serial production for the bus and coach sector.

According to the company, “the system uses R290 (propane), a natural refrigerant with a global warming potential (GWP) of just 3, compared with conventional hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants with GWPs in the hundreds or thousands”. Hispacold says this makes the technology a major step forward in reducing the environmental footprint of HVAC systems in commercial vehicles. The new unit works in the same way as a standard vapour-compression system, but with engineering adaptations to ensure safe handling of the flammable refrigerant, including reinforced components and strict leak prevention measures.
