ABB Motion launches new traction battery at Busworld

ABB Motion stand at Busworld Europe 2025

Belgium / Switzerland – At Busworld Europe 2025 (October 4–9, Brussels), automated technology specialist ABB Ltd of Zürich, Switzerland, unveiled a pair of major innovations for the commercial vehicle market, the Traction Battery Pro Series and the HES580 mobile inverter, underscoring the Swiss group’s commitment to advancing electrification in the heavy-duty transport sector. T&BB sat down with Dr Andreas Z’Graggen, Head of Energy Storage Systems, who explained that the  Traction Battery Pro Series is a modular, liquid-cooled pack designed specifically for electric buses and public-transport vehicles. Its flagship variant, the Pro 10C, uses lithium-titanate oxide (LTO) chemistry to deliver ultra-fast charging, long cycle life, and robust thermal stability. ABB says the system’s modularity allows bus OEMs and integrators to adapt capacity and voltage configurations easily to fleet requirements. Target markets include urban and regional transit fleets in Europe, North America and Asia.

Z’Graggen confirmed that the battery series is currently entering the market-introduction phase, with series production expected to begin in 2026 at ABB’s European manufacturing facilities. Z’Graggen did not disclose customer orders at Busworld, but he indicated that multiple OEM validation programmes are underway.
