Germany – A new early warning safety system for preventing collisions between a pedestrian and a vehicle, has been developed by the ZF Group of Friedrichshafen. Called ZF X2Safe, the new safety system is capable of detecting pedestrians that are not yet visible to drivers, on-board cameras or radar, but can then send the pedestrian and driver audible and visible warnings in advance of a potential collision.

The ZF Group says X2Safe uses an intelligent algorithm to communicate with other vehicles, smart phones and smart watches in order to warn drivers, pedestrians and cyclists of potential collisions. It can also be used to initiate autonomous or semi-autonomous manoeuvres. ZF, which is pursuing a central role in the development of autonomous driving, says this cloud-based algorithm adds another milestone in the digitisation of mechanical components.
