Japan - The commercial vehicle (over 2 tons gvw) market in Japan in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2018 expanded by 8.6% to 108,871 units from weak sales in the same period a year-earlier of 100,220 units, based on data released by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).

The market also rebounded from a weak third quarter, when economic activity was hit hard by a series of natural disasters which affected normal economic activity in some regions of Japan. GDP growth in the fourth quarter came in at 1.4% year-on-year, with the economy rebounding from a revised 2.6% contraction in the third quarter.
