Germany / Sweden / USA - Akasol AG, the Darmstadt–based producer of high-performance lithium-ion battery systems, has announced it is expanding its long-term framework agreement to supply a Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturer (not disclosed*) with high-performance battery systems for electric buses and trucks. The move follows a major order for electric buses, Akasol stated.

Akasol says it intends to start supplying its second generation high-performance batteries in 2020 and that by the end of 2023, it plans to be in a position to supply this second-generation lithium-ion battery system not only from its Langen facility in Germany, where it has recently embarked on doubling its capacities, but also from a new facility being planned in the USA – see below1. Akasol claims this second generation battery provides 30% more energy density – offering more range with the same weight and installation space. In addition, the battery systems are capable of fast-charging in line with specific customer requirements.
