BorgWarner’s full-year financial year results included net sales of USD14.1bn, an increase of 12.4% when compared with 2022 (USD12.6bn). Gross profit was up too in 2023 at USD2.5bn (2022: USD2.3bn) with operating income of USD1.1bn, or 8.2% of net sales.

The European e-bus market gathered in Bonn, Germany to test drive several OEM’s new electric bus (some articulated) offerings. T&BB was in attendance as we gathered at the Stadtwerke Bonn bus depot to begin comparison testing.

The battery packs contain safety features including current overcharge protection, cell-level passive propagation resistance, and electrical disconnection at the individual cell wire bonds that satisfy international safety standards.

The manufacturing facility in Piracicaba, Sao Paulo, is set to open in Q1, 2023. Ultra-high energy (UHE) battery packs (AKASystem AKM CYC) are to be built for supplying the markets in South America.

BorgWarner Inc, based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA, has announced the completion of its previously announced takeover of German battery manufacturer AKASOL AG, headquartered in Darmstadt.

Gillig has secured an order for 60 electric transit buses from Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authroity, to be delivered over the next five years.

Gillig and Akasol partner to provide new low-floor transit buses with larger batteries up to a maximum capacity of 686kWh.

AKASOL opened Gigafactory 1 on 16 August, the largest such in Europe, in Darmstadt, Hesse.

AKASOL has signed a framework agreement to supply batteries to bus, coach and trailer builder, Van Hool NV of Koningshooikt, Belgium.

June 2021 saw ABBA BidCo, a subsidiary of BorgWarner, acquire 89.08% of Darmstadt-based battery producer, AKASOL, for USD648m. 

Automotive components supplier, BorgWarner has reached agreement to buy Darmstadt-based battery producer, Akasol, stating the acquisition will expand its commercial vehicle electrification capabilities significantly.

Akasol AG, a developer and manufacturer of high-performance and high-energy lithium-ion battery systems, and supplier of turnkey solutions, is again expanding its US production capacity in Hazel Park city Michigan from 400MWh to around 2GWh.
