Japan - Japan’s light commercial vehicle market of 2.0-4.5 tons gvw expanded by 6.5% to 75,525 units in the first quarter from 70,904 units a year earlier, despite weakening private consumption in the country.

Toyota was one of the main beneficiaries of the rise, with its Q1 sales rising by just under 7% to 40,817 units from 38,191 units a year earlier; its sales represented more than one in two vehicles sold in this segment - thanks to key models such as the Hiace and Hilux.
