BYD opens electric bus assembly facility in Canada

BYD Inc (Build Your Dreams) of Shenzhen, China has expanded operations in North America by opening its first electric bus assembly plant in Newmarket, Canada. Extending to 45,000 square foot the move is to meet a growing order book for BYD electric buses. the first new electric bus plant to open in Ontario in a generation.

BYD said it is already active in the Canadian market with buses on order (or in operation) in Toronto, Victoria, Longeuil, St. Albert and Grand Prairie. The new plant will first focus on assembling buses for the Toronto Transit Commission, the country’s largest transit operator. The agency is to receive ten pure electric buses with an option for 30 more.
