USA / Germany - At the end of 2020, ZF Friedrichshafen AG of Friedrichshafen, Germany says it will begin production of PowerLine, the company’s new 8-speed fully automatic transmission for medium-duty commercial vehicles in order to supply a contract with an unnamed major North American OEM for launching in early 2021. This will be ZF’s first contract for the medium-duty truck segment.

The company announced a few years’ ago that it had further developed Powerline for medium and light-heavy-duty commercial vehicle segment, but due to vehicle development cycle timeframes it realised it was unlikely to go into series production until now. Powerline is a proven 8-speed automatic transmission for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, and it has an established track record of more than 12 years of success, with more than 15 million units produced.
