USACummins Inc of Columbus, Indiana, at the North America Commercial Vehicle show held in October announced it has expanded the application of its X12+Endurant* powertrain from its Integrated Power portfolio by offering a lightweight version for customers in regional haul applications. This is a new market for the X12 engine, Cummins stated, which, before now, has been exclusively available in vocational and refuse trucks.

Weighing just over 2,700 pounds, the X12 paired with the Eaton Cummins Endurant transmission is expected to be the lightest powertrain available for the Class 8 on-highway market. Suited to weight-sensitive markets like bulk and regional haul applications, the package offers driver-friendly features from the Endurant transmission including smooth shifting and quiet engine performance, while Optimised Urge to Move and Creep Mode make manoeuvring at low speed easier.
