Germany - ContiTech Antriebssysteme GmbH, the air-spring / rubber components division of Continental AG of Hanover, Germany has announced its wide-temperature ranging HiTemp air springs are to be installed as standard cab suspension systems by Swedish truck manufacturer, Volvo Truck Corporation of Gothenburg. The properties of the HiTemp sleeve air springs, states Continental, can withstand temperatures between - 40 and +100 degrees Celsius. This project is being implemented in close collaboration with a major shock absorber manufacturer.

About the HiTemp air spring, Continental stated: ‘To ensure reliable operation in the winter cold of Scandinavia or Russia, as well as in the summer heat of Spain, North Africa, or even in southern Asia, Continental developed its HiTemp solution, which it claims performs reliably even under extreme temperatures. Notably, stricter exhaust-gas standards (to meet Euro 6+ emissions) heat up the engine compartment to a much greater extent creating extremely hot operating conditions. The advantages of the sleeve air springs are they allow for easier heat management by offering the manufacturer greater flexibility when defining the installation space of the cab mount as well as removing the need for a heat shield to protect the air springs against intense heat radiation. This makes the spring function significantly cheaper than previous solutions – reduced downtime and lower repair costs are further advantages.’
