Holger Lange, head of R&D for truck and bus tyres at Continental explained that the company is focused on enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of its commercial vehicle tyres​.

The company will showcase a range of new products under the theme "Innovating transportation from road to cloud". This year's focus includes digitalisation, sustainability and autonomous driving technologies for commercial vehicles.

This blue-chip UK truck show brought hundreds of exhibitors, fleet operators, policymakers, members of the public and of course, the T&BB team.

This expansion will boost its annual capacity of light truck and passenger tyres to 18 million annually by 2027. This will help the company service growing demand in the Asia Pacific market.

T&BB spoke to Ian Jackson, the digital and fleet solutions manager for Conti UK. Jackson confirmed that by the end of the year, the smart sensors embedded in the new CV tyre range will have a new feature, accurate automated tread depth monitoring.

Hundreds of journalists packed the plush conference room on the first floor of the brand-spanking-new building for the big reveal. Interestingly, the themes continually reiterated by the various Conti staff included sustainability, cost pressure, digitalisation driving efficiency as well as compliance & safety.

Continental will be driving the message of “Your Trusted Fleet Parter” which involves aftermarket fleet management services like Conti 360 Solutions and ContiConnect. Continental’s fleet experts and engineers will be on hand to help identify cost-saving opportunities for fleet customers of all sizes by driving efficiency and ultimately TCO.

The digital tyre management tool (“app”) can be accessed through any smart device and is free to use with five connected vehicles or less.  

The app has multiple new functions, including the addition of the van and camper-van tyre segments. Commercial Vehicle (CV) tyre regulations from over 39 countries have been included, provided in 20 languages.

Continental will build initial versions of the hardware as well as test, prototype and validate Aurora’s technology before it starts production at its facility in New Braunfels, Texas, USA.

The valve cap sensor is screwed directly onto the valve of a bus, truck or trailer tyre and measures the tyre pressure in real time. The data is accessed through the ContiConnect tyre app. This entry-level valve cap solution allows fleet managers quicker and easier tyre management, saving time and boosting profitability.

The two partners are already working on integrating Sibros’ ‘Deep Connected Platform’ with Continental’s ‘IoT Gateway’, with a focus on commercial vehicles.
