Uruguay truck market increases 12%, while bus segment falls sharply

Uruguay - With the recent announcement that production of the Ford Transit van will take place in Montevideo, Uruguay for supplying to Uruguay and other countries within South America raises its prominence in the region.

However, demand for commercial vehicles in Uruguay remains small by comparison with Brazil, Argentina, and Chile: In 2020, the Uruguayan market registered 1,748 new trucks, 12.4% more than the 1,555 units sold in 2019 and only 224 buses, 38.5% fewer than the 364 units sold in the previous year – this includes buses from 6 tons of gvw.
