Japan - Covid-19 hit bus and coach market continues to shrink

Japan - Japan’s market for medium and large buses and coaches continued to shrink in the fourth quarter of 2020, by almost 39% to 1,564 units after declining by 20% to 2,550 units in the same period of last year, as demand for public service buses remained depressed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Total sales in 2020 were down by over 31% at 9,334 units from 13,586 units in 2019.

Toyota saw its sales plunge almost 35% to 3,539 units last year, followed by Hino with a 32% drop to 2,258 units and Mitsubishi-Fuso with a similar fall to 1,448 units. Isuzu’s sales fell by 30% to 1,252 units.
