Japan’s light commercial vehicle sector in recovery

Japan’s market for light commercial vehicles between 2.0 & 4.5 tons gvw expanded by just over 4% to 57,210 units in the fourth quarter of 2020 from weak year-earlier sales of 54,981 units, resulting in a decline of just over 13% to 267,007 units over the full-year.

Toyota continued to dominate this segment with models including the Hiace, ToyoAce and Hilux pickup truck. The brand’s sales declined by just under 12% to 135,248 units last year from 153,563 units in 2019, while Nissan’s sales fell by just over 12% to 50,615 from 57,635 units.
