Vion trials of Betterflow aerodynamically-optimised MB/SCB tractor-trailer combination offering fuel savings of 8%

Netherlands / Germany – A project researching an aerodynamically optimised articulated tractor-trailer combination initiated by Dutch international food producer, Vion NV of Boxtel, The Netherlands (which has 26 production sites in the Netherlands and Germany and revenues of EUR4.9bn) started trials on German roads in mid-March with expectations of reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 8%.

The trial vehicle combination has been developed by four companies, Vion (customer and project leader), truck builder, Mercedes-Benz Trucks AG of Stuttgart, Europe’s largest trailer producer, Schmitz Cargobull AG of Horstmar, and aerodynamic specialist start-up, Betterflow GmbH, based in Aachen, Germany.
