Germany / USATraton SE, the German CV manufacturer based in Munich and subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, has successfully acquired Navistar International Corporation, a parent company of numerous American brands, including the International brand of trucks and the IC Bus school bus brand. Traton now holds all of Navistar’s common shares; Navistar was consequently delisted and deregistered with the SEC in July. The purchase price paid by Traton was USD3.7bn.

This acquisition follows on from Volkswagen Truck & Bus GmbH’s purchase of a stake of 16.6% in Navistar in 2017, worth USD256m, and it provides the Traton Group an opportunity to take advantage of Navistar’s established presence in the North American CV markets. The Traton Group now comprises the following CV brands of MAN, Scania, Navistar, and Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus as well as the telematics subsidiary, RIO.
