USA – The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded USD60m to 24 university and industry-led R&D projects which are aimed at reducing CO2 emissions in cars and trucks, as part of a push towards reaching the Biden-Harris administration’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The projects which the DOE will be funding include research into improving EV batteries and electric drive systems, looking into battery lifespan, safety, affordability, and performance; creating mobility systems technologies for commercial and consumer use, including automated vehicles; developing lightweight materials to improve passenger and commercial vehicle efficiency; and reducing exhaust emissions. Some of these projects are also aimed at improving our understanding of current charging infrastructure for medium and heavy-duty EVs.
