Germany / Canada Quantron AG of Gersthofen, Bavaria, Germany, a company specialising in electrification of commercial vehicles, has announced a collaboration with Ballard Power Systems Inc of Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, on the development of a new series of hydrogen fuel-cell electric trucks. Initial delivery is slated for the German market in the second half of 2022.

Ballard Power Systems, which manufactures proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell products, will supply its new generation of ‘FCmove’ heavy-duty fuel-cell power modules for integration in electric truck platforms to be designed by Quantron. Bosch states the new FCmove provides a net power level of 70 kW and boasts a 35% lower lifecycle cost and respective volume and weight reductions of 40% and 35% over the previous generation. Three applications – a 7.5t delivery truck, a 44t heavy-duty truck, and a waste collection truck – are currently in development.
