Germany Quantron AG of Gersthofen, Bavaria, Germany, a company specialising in the electrification of commercial vehicles, announced it plans to launch a 12-metre electric bus for the European market by the end of the year. The battery-electric vehicle is to be offered at an entry price equivalent to that of a 12-metre diesel bus.

The low-floor 12-metre bus, with a capacity of 95 passengers, will be offered with two driveline options: battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell electric (available from Spring 2022). The battery-electric variant will have a max output of 250 kW and a range of up to 280km on a single charge. Its battery pack, which will be manufactured by Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL), will have a capacity of up to 422 kWh, taking up to 6 hours to fully recharge. The hydrogen model is most likely to be powered using Ballard fuel cell systems following a supply agreement also disclosed this month – see article in this issue – between Ballard and Quantron.
