USA / Canada – Bus manufacturer New Flyer Industries Inc. of Winnipeg, Manitoba, (a subsidiary of NFI Group), will begin to offer the eGen Flex hybrid drive system provided by Allison Transmission of Indianapolis, Indiana, from January 2022 onwards.

Allison claims the eGen Flex system can improve fuel economy by up to 25% when compared to a conventional clean diesel bus, and has the ability to operate accessories such as air conditioning with electric power. Moving these accessories to electric power reduces the strain on the engine, reducing fuel consumption and maintenance costs over the vehicle’s lifetime. Alternatively, the eGen Flex can power the vehicle entirely on battery power for approximately ten miles on one charge.
