Mixed sales performances for bus and coach builders in Colombia market

Colombia – In the first nine months of 2021, bus and coach sales in Colombia saw a 24.1% decrease to register 1,547 in comparison with 2,037 with the previous year, according to figures released by the National Association for Sustainable Mobility (ANDEMOS). However, the market showed signs of a recovery, as sales in the third quarter of 2021 slightly outperformed those of the same period in the previous year (843 units compared with 824, a 2.3% growth).

The uptick in sales performance was largely due to fleet renewals, of which the greatest beneficiaries were Scania and Volkswagen which, in the month of August alone, recorded sales amounting to over half of the total number of units sold over the last nine months. Nevertheless, the impact of social distancing and the greater number of people working and studying from home, as well as a decrease in travel and tourism, continues to be felt in the bus and coach segment.
