Nikola to collaborate with OPAL Fuels in development of hydrogen infrastructure

|

By Bradley Osborne - 4th October 2021

USA Nikola Corporation, a designer of zero-emission commercial vehicle concepts based in Phoenix, Arizona, signed a memorandum of understanding with OPAL Fuels LLC of New York City, a portfolio company of investment firm Fortistar, agreeing to co-operate in the development of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure.

The two companies will work together in the development, construction, and operation of hydrogen fuel stations, with the intent of facilitating the adoption of fuel-cell electric vehicles in the heavy-duty transportation industry. OPAL Fuels will also supply renewable natural gas which both companies aim to use in cost-effectively reducing the carbon intensity of the hydrogen delivered to stations. Other joint projects which the two have planned include pilot tests with customers and the development of industry best-practices and standards for hydrogen fuel station design and protocols.
