ZF and Freudenberg to work together on hydrogen-powered coach project

HYFLEET fuel-cell electric coach project by Freudenberg and ZF

GermanyZF Friedrichshafen AG (“ZF”), a components manufacturer based in Friedrichshafen, Baden-Württemberg, is collaborating with Freudenberg Sealing Technologies GmbH & Co KG (“FST”), a subsidiary of the Freudenberg Group based in Weinheim, Baden-Württemberg, on the development of a hydrogen fuel-cell electric coach. This project, called ‘HyFleet’, is set to run for three years and aims to discover the optimum fuel cell system design for powering coaches.

The feasibility study will assess the dimensions, thermal management and load peaks of the fuel cell systems developed by the two companies. The project involves partners such as FlixMobility GmbH, known under their brand name ‘FlixBus’, a provider of intercity bus services based in Munich, Bavaria, and non-profit Atmosfair which manages a carbon offset programme. The German Federal Ministry of Transport of Digital Infrastructure has also pledged its support, having submitted a non-binding letter of intent to help fund the project.
