Gillig secures order of 60 electric transit buses

USA – Gillig LLC, based in Livermore, California, has announced an order of 60 electric transit buses to the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) over the next five years.

The Florida-based transit authority is set to replace its entire fleet of vehicles at a cost of USD80 million including relevant charging infrastructure. Dependant upon the USD1.2 trillion infrastructure bill to provide federal funding, PSTA will receive 12 buses by 2023 and a further 12 by the end of 2024. The vehicles are fitted with Akasol batteries and an e-powertrain from Cummins. Gillig claims that PSTA will save around USD20,000 per year, per vehicle, in diesel costs.
