Germany / Switzerland ZF Friedrichshafen AG (“ZF”), a vehicle components manufacturer based in Friedrichshafen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, has acquired a 25% stake in Embotech AG, an autonomous vehicle software developer based in Zürich, Switzerland. The components manufacturer also announced a strategic partnership between the two companies to develop autonomous systems for distribution hubs and yard operations. ZF will take a seat on Embotech’s Board of Management.

The two companies hope that pooling their expertise in digital and autonomous systems will help to accelerate the development of automated yard logistics, beginning in the European market. ZF and Embotech will develop a software platform for the management of autonomous vehicles and smart infrastructure features which will be applicable to a wide range of settings, including logistics yards, ports, airports, mining and agricultural operations, and bus depots.
