Philippine pickup truck market continues to recover strongly

Philippines - Sales of pickup trucks increased by over 13% to 15,002 units in the fourth quarter of 2021 after declining by 17% to 13,227 units in the same period of the previous year, as the economy continued to rebound from sharp declines in 2020. Full year sales were up by almost 20% at 48,101 units following a 41% decline to 40,187 units in 2020. 

Toyota strengthened its lead in this segment with sales of its Hilux model surging by 64% to 18,969 units after a 44% drop to 11,567 units in 2020, while Nissan made a more moderate gain with its Navara truck, of just over 5% to 9,882 units – enough to claim second place. Ford slipped into third place after sales of its Ranger model fell by 15% to 9,178 units, while sales of the Mitsubishi Triton fell by just under 3% to 5,272 units. Isuzu continued to gain ground with sales of its D-Max model surging by more than 56% to 4,183 units.
