Thai pick-up truck sales decline accelerates in Q4

Thailand - Sales of pickup trucks, excluding passenger vehicle derivatives, declined by over 14% to 100,846 units in the fourth quarter of 2021 from 117,481 units a year earlier, resulting in full-year sales falling by 6.5% to 341,343 units from 364,883 units in 2020. The performance of segment was affected by sluggish domestic economic activity, which was affected by covid outbreaks particularly in the second half of the year. Pickup trucks are typically dual-purpose vehicles in Thailand and are used extensively by farmers and small business owners such as independent traders. 

Isuzu continued to lead this segment last year with sales of the D-Max down by 6% at 150,741 units, to account for more than 44% of total sales. Toyota reported a slight Hilux volume decline to 128,639 units, while Ford enjoyed an almost 13% rise in sales of its Ranger model to 27,304 units.
