Solaris announces order for up to 106 battery and fuel-cell electric buses for Austria

Poland / Austria - Solaris Bus & Coach sp. z o.o. of Bolechowo, Poland has announced a new framework agreement with bus operator Österreichische Postbus AG of Vienna, Austria, providing options to deliver up to 106 battery and fuel-cell electric buses between now and 2025 (with the option to extend the agreement to 2028). 

The deal includes 24 Urbino 9 LE electric buses and 82 Urbino 12 hydrogen buses, following on from a contract signed in February 2021 providing options for the delivery of up to 40 hydrogen buses. 

Further orders for the Urbino electric 

Solaris also signed a contract for 27 Urbino 12 electric and 5 Urbino 18 (articulated) electric buses with municipal association GZM Metropolis based in the Silesia region of Poland. The buses, which are slated for delivery in 2023, will serve the cities of Gliwice, Katowice, Sosnowiec, and Świerklaniec, and will be delivered with 11 pantograph chargers and 16 plug-in chargers. 

30 Urbino 18 electric buses are due to be delivered to Dortmunder Stadtwerke AG in the city of Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany by the end of 2022. These will be the first electric buses to serve in Dortmunder Stadtwerke’s fleet. 

Further orders for the Urbino hydrogen 

5 Urbino 12 hydrogen buses are set to go to Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the Spanish island of Mallorca, after Solaris won an EU-supported tender worth EUR4m. In the meantime, the city of Jaworzno in Poland is pilot testing the Urbino 12 hydrogen over four weeks in March. The bus will operate 7 days a week on the city’s main routes.
