Ready for electrification? A NACFE report on the viability of Class 3-8 zero-emission vehicles
By Will Hall - 20th May 2022
USA – The North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) has released two reports detailing its findings and support for electrification of commercial vehicles ranging in size from Class 3 light-duty vehicles up to Class 8 vehicles.
The organisation concludes from the reports that significant portions of these segments are currently electrifiable, largely due to their use in repeatable routes that support overnight depot charging, reducing their dependence on sparce public charging infrastructure. For these applications, NACFE states that the five-year total cost of ownership (TCO) is now lower for a battery-electric vehicle than a diesel counterpart thanks to incentive schemes and lower fuel/maintenance costs.
