USA / France – Fuel cell manufacturing JV, Symbio of Fontaine, Isère, France has been selected by the California Energy Commission (CEC) in the development of a hydrogen-powered regional-haul Class 8 truck with the support of funds amounting to USD2m from the CEC.

The project, named ‘Symbio H2 Central Valley Express’, involves the development of a prototype hydrogen truck intended to match the performance of a 15-litre diesel truck. Starting from the second half of 2023, the truck will be tested on a 400-mile route between Inland Empire – a metropolitan area adjacent to Los Angeles – and the northern reaches of the San Joaquin Valley, which runs through the centre of the state of California, over a period of twelve months.
