Modular drive system for special heavy-duty vehicles by ZF

Germany - At Interschutz 2022 – a trade fair for fire and rescue services and civil protection and security industries held in Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany between 20-25 June – ZF Friedrichshafen AG of Friedrichshafen, Baden-Württemberg showcased two new products for special vehicles: a modular drive system and an updated transmissions system for offroad use.

The former is a package combining an electric motor, automatic transmission, and transfer case, offering to special vehicle manufacturers “an optimal drive solution from a single source”. The motor is a ‘CeTrax’ electric central drive, including inverters and power electronics. It allows for pure electric operation during shorter tasks and hybrid mode for medium-length routes. It can also support the combustion engine with an additional power boost, which ZF claims can save “valuable seconds” during deployment in emergency situations. The motor also enables mounted units and equipment, such as ladders, pumps or dump bodies, to be operated with zero emissions.
