Chereau partnering with Sono Motors to developed solar powered refrigerated vehicles

The solar-powered trailer will generate up to 9.8kW at peak times

France / Germany – Jean Chereau S.A.S of Ducey, France, has announced a partnership with Sono Motors GmbH of Munich with the intention of developing a test vehicle to study the integration of a new solar solution into a high-volume production refrigerated trailer. The test vehicle will form part of the firm’s demonstration fleet and will be on show at the 2022 IAA event.

Sono Motors will equip the roof and sides of an existing Chereau semi-trailer with 54 solar modules using the VaPV (vehicle applied photovoltaics) process that was developed specifically for refrigerated bodies. The high-efficiency solar modules cover an area of 58.9 m² and will provide up to 9.8 kW of total energy at peak times. The solar energy will be used to run the refrigeration unit by recharging the main battery.
