US government allocates USD 7.5 billion in funding for transit sector over next five years

USA – The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has announced that over the next five years (fiscal year 2023-28) USD7.5bn is to be awarded to transit agencies, territories, and states across the country to invest in bus fleets, zero emission vehicle maintenance training, and facilities. The awards are to be funded through the present US governments recently approved Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and is part of the government’s overall strategy of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. (The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law authorizes up to $108 billion to support federal public transportation programs, including $91 billion in guaranteed funding).

The bus grant awards, which are made under FTA's Low- and No-Emission Vehicle and Buses and Bus Facilities programs, are the FTA's first competitive grant selections under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
