Toyota to invest JPY730bn in battery manufacturing operations

Japan / USAToyota Motor Corporation of Toyota, Japan has announced it is investing up to JPY730bn (approximately USD5.6bn) in Japan and the USA to expand its battery manufacturing capacity by up to 40 GWh. 

Around JPY400bn will be invested in Toyota sites in Japan and in the plant run by Prime Planet Energy & Solutions Co Ltd – a joint venture between Toyota and Panasonic – in Himeji. In the U.S., Toyota will invest JPY325bn, or USD2.5bn, in its battery plant in Liberty, North Carolina, announced in 2021 and currently under construction. The announcement brings Toyota’s total promised investment in North Carolina to USD3.8bn.
