East Asia - Sales of commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw in East Asia’s seven main markets, excluding China, rose by almost 3% to 338,541 units in the second quarter of 2022 units from 328,861 units in the same period of last year, according to data compiled from numerous industry sources including trade associations and vehicle manufacturers. In the first half of 2022, regional sales rose by 2.5% to 703,309 units.

The performances of the individual markets varied significantly in the second quarter, with North-Asian markets such a South Korea and Japan and also Vietnam, continuing to decline while sales in most South-east Asian markets continued to rebound from the lows of the last two years. Second-quarter economic growth in South-east Asia was lifted by a return of international tourism after travel restrictions were eased at the end of the first quarter, with the easing of domestic restrictions also helping to lift consumer spending.
