MAN involved in project testing megawatt charging for trucks

Prototype megawatt charging system developed by NEFTON

Germany MAN Truck & Bus SE, a subsidiary of the Traton Group based in Munich, Bavaria, has announced its involvement in the ‘NEFTON’ project, which recently expanded its scope to test the effectiveness of 3-MW chargers in supporting heavy-duty electric truck transportation.

NEFTON was launched in 2021 on the back of funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection which lasts until 2024. The project is assessing whether fast megawatt charging can help battery-electric trucks to match the typical profile of a conventional truck used for long haul transportation. It is also measuring the impact that megawatt chargers would have on the national grid, were they to be rolled out on a large scale.
