USA / Germany – Drivetrain manufacturer, Cummins Inc of Columbus, Indiana displayed a proof-of-concept medium-duty Mercedes-Benz Atego 4x2 truck powered by its new B6.7H hydrogen internal combustion engine and fitted with Cummins own hydrogen storage system, at the IAA Transportation event in Hanover.

The truck was fitted with the new 6.7-litre hydrogen engine, which offers a maximum output of 290 hp (216 kW) and 1200 Nm peak torque. The chassis accommodated twin fuel tanks, supplied by Cummins’ hydrogen tank storage joint venture company with NPROXX, which accommodates an on-board hydrogen storage capacity of around 40 kg of hydrogen. The hydrogen storage system operates at 700-bar working pressure, which enables more hydrogen to stored giving a range of up to 500 km. Furthermore, together with the twin tanks there remains installation space for an auxiliary tank of around 10 kg, Cummins pointed out.
