By Bradley Osborne - 2nd December 2022

USA / NetherlandsTorc Robotics Inc, a subsidiary of Daimler Truck based in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA, has announced it will test its Level 4 autonomous driving technology for trucks through virtual scenarios developed according to a methodology devised by the Nederlandse Organisatie voor Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek (TNO; “Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research”), an independent research organisation based in The Hague.

TNO has developed scenario-based tests, called ‘StreetWise’, which draw on real-world driving data sourced from industry partners. TNO is thus able to model realistic scenarios to test autonomous driving software for a wide range of different use cases and according to international safety requirements. Any information that could identify persons involved in the real-life scenarios TNO employs in its tests remains classified.
